Gathering weekly, in simple and heartwarming shelters, to share gratitude and community, the women bring pieces they have crocheted in the previous week. Together, we aim to engender pride, an entrepreneurial spirit, sense of purpose and hope.
Earnings are distributed with view to drive initiative and creativity. Innovating a one off gem (or commission piece) sees one earning individually from its sale. Making a standard piece sees the profit split evenly between the Ukuthunga craftswomen team. There are no margins elsewhere within the business.
Crochet training is offered to newcomers. Robust quality control mechanisms ensure only the most finely crafted items make it up for sale.
